Raising Spirit-Filled Leaders for a Divine Purpose

Welcome to C&S College of Divinity, a place of biblical learning, spiritual growth, and preparation for Christian service. We are committed to equipping believers with sound biblical knowledge, strong Christian character, and a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

A Legacy of Faith and Theological Education

The idea of establishing College Of Divinity by Surulere District of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Nigeria and Overseas, was the Word plus the reason, the expression plus the thought, received from the Spirit and conceived by the Leader-in-Council many years ago.

To this end, after repeated spiritual revelations, the Leader-in-Council of the Church; the late Special Apostle Gabriel Olubunmi Fakeye introduced a regular Bible Study Group. Senior Apostle Dr. H. Olu Atansuyi, who is a Theologian by profession and Lecturer of the Word both here and abroad, was appointed to direct the Bible Study Group. While the Bible Study group was in session, the Leader-in-Council also allowed and organised various Seminars and Workshops for Prophets, Prophetesses and conference title holders, which enable members to see goodness in learning and understanding God. Alongside with the Bible Study Group, Dr. H. Olu Atansuyi was also teaching few members of the Church.

In 1983, a Board of Trustees was instituted, comprising the Leader-in-Council, Dr. H. Olu Atansuyi and some eminent members who were scholars among the elders of the Church.

A legal practitioner Barrister Pekun Lukmanbi, (Esquire) was appointed Board Secretary. A proper memorandum and Articles of Association was drafted authorising the institution to be registered under the Land Perpetual Act.

The College of Divinity, it was decided, should initially consist of two arms; the first arm should be School of Theological Studies, which would offer courses leading to degrees, diplomas in Theology, Divinity and Philosophy while the second arm, a Seminary would be for the preparation of candidates for the Cherubim and Seraphim Priesthood. It was also further decided that the Church should proceed with the preparation for the establishment and running of the first arm that is the School of Theological Studies inter alia, for the important reason that when the first batch of graduates were out, the Seminary would have sufficient materials for the training of Priests.

It is a well-known fact that in modern days the training of Priests requires such highly educated intellectuals and it would thus be appropriate to have enough Theological graduates who as members of the Church were already well acquainted with the doctrine of the Holy Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Organisation of Nigeria and Overseas.

In 1986, the institution experienced a further re-organization as a result of Senior Apostle G.O Baptist’s suggestion to Dr. Atansuyi that the Church Ministry Theology is for helping the Church to grow, so open your hand to Apostle Dr. Leo Sy-Apoe, who was an educator, a devoted, Spirit-filled Christian to join hands in running the School. When Dr. H. Olu Atansuyi found that Dr. Leo Sy-Apoe was a qualified educator, a Theologian with School methodology experienced and decided to appoint him as the Dean of Faculty, which he did effectively.

During this time, a proper Institutional Council was constituted. A seasoned Apostle Pastor G.O Baptist, then the Church Secretary and Research Scholar in Bible Customs, manners and culture was appointed President of the Institutional Council.

Another Scholar with a Master’s Degree in Philosophy and Ph. D at Unilag, Dr. Kunle Oshinowo served the College as registrar from 1985 to 2011. Then Dr. Akin Ogundana took over in acting capacity in 2011 until 2014.

The General Leader/Lord Rector late Special Apostle Gabriel Olubunmi Fakeye in 2012 set up a Board of Governors for the College. The Board was saddled with the responsibility to look into ways of resuscitating the College which was almost moribund. The Board of Governors (which is) made up of erudite and committed members of the Church.

They engaged in critical examination of what was at stake and put in motion reformational process which led to the appointment of a substantive registrar in the person of Deaconess Folasade Oyeniyi in 2014. Since 2014 the College have witnessed a total turn around for good in terms of the facilities and content of the courses offered.

The College has in no small measure impacted the Church positively aligning with the objective of its establishment. It is hoped that the institution will continue to live up to expectation many years to come. Our approach to theological education combines biblical learning with spiritual development, preparing students to serve the Church and contribute positively to society. Through our theology programmes, we aim to develop individuals who are grounded in the Word of God and committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
